https://Voice.club - “Mum, how are you?”
“Oh, son, I’m as good as I can be.”
He smiled as he sat beside her on the porch.
“I know you always love twilight—watching the sun sink below the horizon.”
“Yes. Your father had a deep love for nature, and he opened my eyes to see its beauty. Summer was his favourite season, while autumn is mine,” she said with a smile.
“Mum, I hope you didn’t feel the shock wave in your hand today?” he asked, turning to look at her.
“Only slightly today.”
“Okay. Have you taken your medication?”
“Yes, I have. I can’t wait to stop taking those medicines,” she said with a worried look.
“Soon you will be. The doctor called me today to ask how you were doing.”
“Oh, that’s nice of him,” his mother said, smiling.
“Yes, he’s been a good friend.”
“Oh, son, I forgot to ask. How was work today?”
“Hectic but interesting.”
“Hmmm.”
“David called to ask how you were doing.”
“Oh, that’s good to hear. How’s he doing?”
“He’s fine. We couldn’t talk for long; I was in the middle of something very important when he called. He said he’ll be coming for the summer. He also mentioned he called you several times, but you weren’t picking up.”
“Oh, I was engrossed in the book I was reading, and my phone was on silent. By the time I checked my phone, I saw his missed calls. I told myself I would call him back later. I’m also
having trouble with the different time zones.”
“Okay, no problem. Mum, is Sheila back?”
“Oh, she hasn’t returned yet.”
“Is anything the matter?” she asked.
“No, nothing, Mum. I’ll call when I go inside.”
He kissed his mother on the forehead and went inside. She smiled.
He entered his mother’s room, took the book she was reading from her hands, and covered her properly with a blanket. He smiled as he looked at her, then turned to check the title of the book.
Tears streamed down his cheeks.
