Epiphany - by Thompson Emate

https://Voice.club - He shared his dreams and aspirations with them, but they all stared at him blankly.

“Is anything the matter?” he asked, but there was no response. A few shrugged their shoulders.

“Listen, son,” his father said, “there’s no point in getting excited about building castles in the air. Come out of your fantasy world and be the man I’ve always wanted you to be. You’re too laid back.”

“But, Dad, that’s what I want to do. It’s what I’m meant for, and it’s been latent in me. Now is the time for me to bring it out…”

“Bring what out?” his father interrupted. “See, son, our years don’t wait for us. Time never sits idly by, even when we do. It’s always moving, so we should be too. You’ve wasted too much time dreaming. Now is the time to bring the real deal to the table.”

He turned to his mother, who looked at his father and then back at him, nodding in agreement.

“Then I don’t think I should be sitting here since no one understands or believes in me,” he said, standing up and walking to the porch.

His mother sat beside him in silence for a while before she held his hand and looked into his eyes. Then, she stood up and went inside. After a long stare at the sky, he also went in.

“Wake up. Wake up,” she gently tapped him.

He sat up in bed, startled. “Who are you?” he asked.

“Don’t worry about who I am. You’ve spent too much time asleep. Come with me,” she beckoned.

He followed her, not minding that she was a stranger. A door opened, and they walked through into a bright room. She waved her hand at one part of the wall.

“This is who you can be if you don’t give up,” she said.

He saw himself being interviewed on a talk show as the author of a best-selling book.

“Who are you?” he asked, tears streaming down his face.

“I’m your godmother,” she whispered.

He woke up and looked around. No one was there.

What a mysterious and intriguing story, Thompson. It begs for part two. Good job!

Thank you, Margarita, for stopping by. I’m honoured. I think I’ll see to the part 2 of the story.

What a fulfilling end. Wishing your protagonist’s dream comes true.

Thank you, Lotchie. I do also.
