https://Voice.club - “There’s one left.”
“Just one?”
“Yeah. This is it.”
All three of them gazed at the single chocolate cupcake.
“They were so yummy.”
“Perfectly scrumptious.”
“And—we all want it, am I right?”
“So who gets it?”
“Well, I baked them.”
“I bought all the ingredients.”
“And it’s my recipe.”
There was a long silence.
“I guess we have to cut it into thirds.”
“That’s—that’s gonna be really hard. It’s round, you know. I mean, cutting in fourths would work okay . . . .”
“Well, that won’t help us.”
“I didn’t say it would help us. I know we need only three pieces. I just meant—thirds, that’s more difficult.”
“Just cut it at 120 degree angles. That will be thirds.”
“How are we supposed to do that?”
“It’s just a right angle plus 30 degrees. You cut things at right angles all the time. Just add 30 degrees more. It’s that simple.”
“Great. All we need now is a geometrical cake knife.”
She shrugged. “You can just do it freehand.”
“Look, I think we’re going at it the wrong way. Forget about geometry. What we need to do is cut it into 3 pieces.”
“That’s what I just suggested!”
“But you went into all this geometry business . . . .”
“It is geometry, whether you say it or not!”
“Well, I never trusted geometry.”
“Oh, my head!”
“Wait, where are you going?”
“Out for more ingredients.”
The door closed behind her. The other two look at each other and grinned.
“More cupcakes.”
“I’ll get the recipe.”
“I’ll get out the bowls.”
“What about this last cupcake? What should we do?”
“Hmm. Let’s just leave it.”
“On the counter?”
“Yeah. When she gets back from the store, she can have it if she wants.”
“Sounds fair.”
“I mean—it would be wasteful to throw it out, right?”
“I guess someone should eat it.”
“Yeah. Whatever.”
