The Perfect Creation - by Susan Giles

https://Voice.club - “Create the perfect chanty,” he hears her whisper across the table. The room is packed, but his eyes are only on her. He smiles his promise to her.

For weeks he works on his creation: researching, talking with friends, traveling to different locations to interview experts. Finally, he feels that he has achieved perfection. As a test he gathers a group of friends at a bar to try out his final product.

“Excellent!” they respond.

“Flawless!” they cheer.

“The perfect way to win the lady!” They are all in full agreement, raising their glasses in a toast.

One evening he presents his gift to the lady. Once they are sitting across from each other at a table near the bar, he sings:

“Oh, for a life on the open seas
The perfect place for my lady and me.
Sunning by day and swimming by night
Together, all will be true and right
In our life on the open seas.”

“You dolt!” her unexpected response rings through the bar. ‘I said SHANDEE’, not ‘CHANTY’!"

Shaking her head in annoyance, she walks away with the bartender.

The next year the chanty wins CMA’s Song of the Year Award.

What a creative and fun story! I also love the little kids trying to pick out a chanty in your picture. No doubt the bartender is mixing up the perfect shandee even as we read the story.

Great storytelling!

That’s really a perfect shanty song. I wish I had a chance to hear the whole song. Nice one.

And my husband tells me off for mumbling!

Lotchie, as I just made up that little ditty, there is, unfortunately, no more to the song! Thank you for reading and enjoying my story.

We are all guilty of both mumbling and not truly listening! The results of these faults are, hopefully, more often hilarious than disastrous.

Thanks for your kind remarks. This was a fun story to write as we are all guilty of misunderstandings such as this.
